Appin Mine in the Wollondilly region of New South Wales, approximately 25 kilometres north-west of Wollongong, is an existing underground mine primarily producing metallurgical coal. It is currently operating in the Douglas Park and Menangle areas.

Following the announcement in late August, ownership of the Illawarra assets is transferring from South32 to GM3. As part of this process, South32 will continue to provide support to the Illawarra under a Transitional Service Agreement (TSA) for a period of several months after the legal transfer of ownership.
